Typically, systems are used for temporary road checks such as music or sporting events. Alternatively the system cab be utilised in specific problem areas where suspect vehicles are believed to be operating.

Technologies such as Tetra, GPRS and 3G also allow for live links with information stored on any relevant databases including BOF and BOF2, the UK's back office database.
